Unemployed strive to ‘find something’

1. Are these people doing the right thing to gain a job? I think they are if they want to get one then they should just keep trying to get one, and if you can't get one then go for the unemployment, but even that might not be enough, and even social security might not be enough, but it is still money.
2. What could they do to make themselves more appealing to prosepctive employers? They can try to persuade people that they really need a job, and just keep going back to those places that you have given applications, and they might eventually give in.
3. If you became unemployed, how would you go about finding a job? I would go to different places, applying as much places as I can and keep going back at the ones that you think you might want to work at and they might give you a job.
4. Are those with degrees more able to get a job or is the economy so bad that it doesnt matter? I think if you really want a job then keep going back, and i think if you can't find a job then the economy is really bad that people don't want to hire anyone else.

Upstate restaurateurs hope to grab piece of pizza business

1. Do you believe that the owners did a good job of market research? I do, I think it is great that they have opened up a store for food and then later at night turned it into a sports bar.
2. Do you feel as thought this business can be successful or are there too many sports bars and pizza places to go to? I think it will since the two guys have been in the restuarant business for 18 years.
3. With the economy, how can they make sure this business survives? They can attract more people from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. monday through saturday, and on sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m..
4. How would you markt this business to possible customers? Give your bets sales pitch!! I would have advertisements about the great food for the magazines, newspapers, tv, radio, and possibly the internet. I would try to come up with catchy phrases that people will want to eat there and then for the people that drink a lot come back at night for the sports bar.

Five Years in Review: The Minneapolis Real Estate Market

Poised on top of the real estate mountain in 2003, it's hard to imagine so much change in the Minneapolis real estate market in the last five years. While the bubble has certainly burst and it's no longer a seller's market, key elements like long-term value of Minneapolis real estate as an investment and the quality of life available to residents has not changed. Even after five years of change, the world of Minneapolis real estate is still a great place to buy a home for you and your family. 2003 was a banner year for the housing market across the United States. In Minnesota, 39,440 people were gainfully employed in the real estate and rental industries with a combined annual payroll exceeding $1,237,000,000. Clearly, real estate was lucrative for sales professionals involved in the booming market. Sellers benefited from bidding wars over their homes. Houses could not be built fast enough to meet the exceptional demand for homes in the market. Over the next two years, the strength of the economy and the housing market caused lenders to start granting adjustable rate mortgages and larger mortgages than people could actually afford. Lending practices got very loose as bankers were caught up in the housing market frenzy. Add the risky business of real estate speculation to the equation and it soon became clear that some of the growth in the housing market was built on shaky ground. Builders and lenders wanted to continue the exponential growth of years past, and by 2006, it was clear that far too many new homes were sitting on the market unsold. New home building slowed to a stop by 2007, and because builders could not get new homes sold, the value of homes across the country started to drop. Analysts called it price adjustment for the over inflated selling prices of years past, but homeowners simply saw it as less value in their investments. Once the dust settled in 2008, however, homeowners realized that although their homes had lost a bit of value, their homes were still solid investments. Compared with the performance of stocks and 401Ks, home equity was a solid place to put hard earned money for those willing to keep homes until the economy began to pick up speed. While the past five years in Minneapolis real estate have been filled with drama, one thing a smart investor realizes: current prices in the housing market make this the ideal time to buy. Houses and condos that were once out of reach financially are now less expensive and ready to be purchased. In addition, the influx of one-time homeowners that now want to rent homes instead of paying over-inflated and financially dangerous mortgages makes this the ideal time to venture into rental property ownership. Rentals are a great way to invest and make money in the current economy. The future is anyone's guess, but one thing is certain: Minneapolis real estate is one of the best ways to invest in your future. Over the long haul, it's sure to pay off; thanks to the strength and bright future of the city's schools, commerce and the entrepreneurial spirit of its residents.
1) I chose this article because I thought it was very interesting. I think it is funny, that the real estate business are rolling in some high money.

Extreme dollar-stretching

1. Is this too extreme at this time in the recession? No it is not, if you want to cut back on money then that's what you have to do. If your saving money in case one day you might lose your house or something happens then you won't have to worry.
2. Do you or your family do any saving to this extreme? If so, What? No, but I guess we should start.
3. Do you think that eventually we will all have to save 50% or more of our income each month? Yes I think we should in case something bad happens to the economy and people can't pay for the houses then they might need to start saving in case something like this happens.
4. What are other methods that you may know of to save more money? Not shopping as much, buying all the foods that go on sale, and cut back on driving so much so you won't have to pay $40 dollars.

Myrtle Beach hopes expanded summer activities will draw more tourists

1. Could this be a good idea? Yes it could, because if Myrtle Beach is adding new attractions, then a lot more people will come, and they will get more money.
2. Did it hurt Myrtle Beach that they are going away from students and bikers and push more toward families? Why? Yes, because when students and bikers come to Myrtle Beach they buy a lot of stuff, and Myrtle Beach is getting more money. Since they are pushing that towards the families then the bikers will still buy things, but not as much because they won't have anthing that will interests them, since they are adding new attractions.
3. What would you do to encourage tourists to MB during this recession?? I would encourage them to make the new attractions for everyone and not just little kids or adults so they can have more people there.
4. Are free activities what MB needs to do to gain tourists? If it says they will then yes, but I also think that is a bad idea because they will not make money off of the attractions and then they will have to close it down.

Entrepreneurship

1. What are your thoughts on the comments on this article? I think young people can start a new business, if they go to college and get a degree on it, because if you start before going to a business class you will not do well.

1. Research the three types of risk (economic, natural, and human) Writing down what each part represents and give an example.
Economic- Economic represents money. Example: the economy.
Natural- Natural represents something that is made from the ground. Example: corn.
Human- Human is the peope around you. Example: Barack Obama.
2. How do they protect against each risk from the aspect of a business owner or entrepreneur? They protect against each risk by revewing all of their income, how how much of that money goes out, and if their is some money that is getting lost then they have to go over their reviews and find the reason for the money being lost.
